Resounding Trees: Music and Notes on the Rise

Bozeman June 27
Tippet Rise June 28 & 29

In Resounding Trees, MIST uses music, plein air painting, poetry, classical literature and Pulitzer-prize winning modern novels set in nature itself to explore the ancient calling that trees and humans have with each other.

Richard Powers, in his 2019 Pulitzer - Prize winning novel, The Overstory, says

“You and the tree in your backyard come from a common ancestor. A billion and a half years ago, the two of you parted ways. But even now, after an immense journey in separate directions, that tree and you still share a quarter of your genes. . . .”

MIST has created an 80 minute walking production that explores the connection between trees and humans. A double string quartet performing original music underscoring sections from The Overstory, a plein air painter creating a master replication of a growing tree, indigenous people from two cultures worlds apart, and professional actors breathing new life into classical literature, all come together our trek through nature. Fourteen artists weave together their craft, informed by the performance space, which is Montana nature itself.

The first performance happens in Bozeman on Friday June 27 at 6 pm, in the backyard amphitheater of Carrie Krause and Paul Lachapelle at 500 Black Bear Road. It is a free show, but registration of your attendance is important, as seating is limited. Register HERE to attend the BOZEMAN show.
